Welcome to The Little Greene Church

Welcome to the Greene Community Church Website (chartered in March of 1876 as "The Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Greene, in the Town of Coventry").. We would love to welcome you to our small country church with a worldwide view.  We are located on Hopkins Hollow Road in Coventry across from the Greene Public Library. Worship is at 9:30-ish on Sunday mornings.  Afterwards, in the tradition of our esteemed late church leader, Maxwell Mays,we share extended fellowship over brunch.

Our worship is informal, but strongly biblically based, with a progressive understanding.  Someone once remarked, ďItís like being in Godís living room.Ē Almost all of our weekly offerings go to diverse missions throughout Rhode Island, the United States, and the world.

You are invited to join us.  We are a welcoming reconciling congregation.

Greene Community Church United Methodist
Mission Statement

All persons are individuals of sacred worth, created in Godís own image.  Therefore, we pledge ourselves to engage in the sacred hospitality and responsibility Christ taught.  We commit ourselves to maintaining a place of safety and sanctuary for all who come together in ministry and mission:  people of all races, ages, sexual orientation, family structures, economic situations and mental or physical conditions.  Through the grace of Christ we dedicate ourselves to live out these commitments creatively, humbly, and with hope.

United Methodist Social Creed

We believe in God, Creator of the world; and in Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of creation. We believe in the Holy Spirit, through whom we acknowledge Godís gifts, and we repent of our sin in misusing these gifts to idolatrous ends.

We affirm the natural world as Godís handiwork and dedicate ourselves to its preservation, enhancement, and faithful use by humankind.

We joyfully receive for ourselves and others the blessings of community, sexuality, marriage, and the family.

We commit ourselves to the rights of men, women, children, youth, young adults, the aging, and people with disabilities; to improvement of the quality of life; and to the rights and dignity of racial, ethnic, and religious minorities.

We believe in the right and duty of persons to work for the glory of God and the good of themselves and others and in the protection of their welfare in so doing; in the rights to property as a trust from God, collective bargaining, and responsible consumption; and in the elimination of economic and social distress.

We dedicate ourselves to peace throughout the world, to the rule of justice and law among nations, and to individual freedom for all people of the world.

We believe in the present and final triumph of Godís Word in human affairs and gladly accept our commission to manifest the life of the gospel in the world.
